Lacey, Washington
The city of Lacey was officially incorporated on December 5th, 1966. At the time, Lacey was mostly a commuter town for Olympia and to some extent, Tacoma, although it was home to one of the Northwest's first ever "indoor malls," South Sound Center. In recent years, however, business developments, community groups, and population growth have led Lacey to develop into a city in its own right.

Lacey is now looking forward to the completion of the "Gateway Project" with its planned commercial core and high-rise district. This will be the first of several new developments planned for Lacey's new Hawks Prairie District. The Gateway Project is expected to create a downtown area for Lacey, complete with residential towers, a new library, performing arts center, fire station, fitness center, and farmers' market. In addition, it's expected that 7,000 housing units will be built when the project is completed in 2020, increasing the population of Lacey by around 20,000 people, and potentially making it the largest city in the South Puget Sound region.
